FSX Keeps Assigning Buttons/Control Settings

Howdy guys, I've recently re-installed my Windows 7 64 system and FSX. My problem is that after closing FSX and re-entering I realize none of my changes are sticking. I have to go into Control Settings each time and delete a bunch of assignments to my TQ6. Even the keyboard assignements won't stick. Nor do my successful missions completed check marks.

I'm only concerned with the Control Settings as I can live with the rest. It takes a long time to change them all and even then I have to make a second or third pass because it continues to add things I don't want in there.

Hoping someone has an answer.

    Hello Mitch
First of all you DON'T want to delete your keyboard assignments only the joystick assignments and your button assignments. So hers;s what i would  start FSX and reset defaults. Then remove all the buttons and axis assignments save then exit FSX.That should save all your settings.Note:you don't want to disconnect your TQ6 when your computer is on or it will re detect your TQ6 and you will have to set it up again.
  • I got it John. It was actually a permissions issue with Windows 7. I've made the change needed and now am good to go again. I was pulling my hair out for about 2 weeks with this.

    Thanks for the quick response.

It's always something stupid with Windows huh?

  • Hi Goatman

A friend of mine is having this exac trouble with saving control settings in Windows7.

You said it was a permissions issue but you did not say how to make the change to fix the problem: can you help me out? please................

  • Sure thing.

I had to right click on the FSX folder, click on "Properties", click on the "Security" tab and make sure all the "Allow" column items are checked for the proper group or user names. I just noticed that right now under "Everyone" I have all checkd except "Special Permissions" which is not. Under "CREATOR OWNER" none are checked. Under "System" all are checked except Special permissions. Under "Administrators (FSX-Drive\Administrators)" all are checked including "Special permissions". Under "USers (FSX-Drive\Users) all are checked but "Special permissions". Under "TrustedInstaller" only "List folder contents" and "Special permissions" are checked.

Let me know if this works for you as well. Mine has been fine ever since.

  • John, when I mentioned the keyboard assignments not sticking I just meant that an assignment I had made to pull up the map wasn't being kept. I was just deleting the joystick assignments each time. I realize how you might have thought what you did though.

Thanks by the way for the quick feedback.

And Skittles yes, it sure was something stupid. I think its getting to the point where they're going a little overboard with security measures. You'd think there has to be a better way.
